The Backstory

In the fall of 2018, Jason designed the PureTorque, a training device designed to maximize core training. In the spring of 2020, the first batch of PureTorques were released to athletes and exercise professionals. They were all blown away by the experience of using the PureTorque to train a critical aspect of athletic performance - trunk motion and stability. As enthusiastic as Jason and his clients were, Jason immediately saw that something was missing. He could see the potential to leverage even better results from using the PureTorque. That's when Jacques and Jason began collaborating on how to teach an in-depth course about defining the core and how to specifically enhance core power, control, and efficiency. As the workshop shaped up, Curtis was an obvious choice to help teach how to integrate the PureTorque into conditioning and sport-specific exercise progressions.

Meet the Team

Curtis Clay

Curtis began his career training athletes at the professional, collegiate and high-school level. Before beginning his career, Curtis was a college athlete himself, as the starting shortstop at Division 1 Kennesaw State University. While at KSU, he studied Exercise and Health Sciences. In his athletic senior year, he actually declined signing offers because academics came first; Curtis was determined to be the first in his family to graduate from college. In 2010, he achieved his Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Health Sciences.

Since beginning, Curtis has continued to train athletes of every level and expanded to train athletes in a variety of sports, including: Baseball, Softball, Track, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Volleyball, Crew and Military. Since beginning Curtis Clay Training 2012, he has had 106 athletes achieve collegiate scholarships.

Jason Braun

Founder of Tidal Elite Performance Center, personal trainer J Braun has been a Certified Mastery level Resistance Training Specialist since 2009. Having previously held CSCS and PES certifications, he is also a Muscle Activations Techniques Specialist. Since 1998, J has been training clients and athletes at varying stages of development. He is currently a Strength Coach for the Potomac Boat Club’s Olympic Development Team.

J specializes in training clients that are committed to feeling and functioning better. His philosophy: If a body can’t recover from a workout, it can’t adapt to it. This balancing act is accomplished by making sure the client is always in a mechanically sound position, using an appropriate load, and performing the best exercise for the desired goal.

Jacques H. Newell Taylor

Jacques is an exercise design specialist with over 25 years of study and experience in the fields of applied neuroscience and exercise science. He is keenly interested in elucidating and exploiting the relationships
between physical performance, mental performance, and personal transformation. Jacques helps individuals and corporations leverage the power of exercise to optimize mental and physical health and performance.

Jacques is also a consultant for companies and individuals who need to understand the biomechanics, neuromotor control, neurodynamics, neuroadaptation, neuropsychology, and neurophysiology of exercise.
He travels North America and Europe teaching healthcare and fitness professionals about trenchant concepts in biomechanics, exercise mechanics, neurophysiology, and joint health. He is the founder of The Exercise Design Lab.
